Epic Road Trip Part III: Seattle to Provo

My parents came down to Portland to watch Colby and wish Kristen all the best, so the next day we got to caravan home together.  

And the next day was the 12th, so here's my 12 on 12:

And Monday we started the 14 hour drive back to Provo.

 It wasn't a long visit, but I'm so glad we got to squeeze a little time in with them.

And this mini-van is awesome.

Epic Road Trip Part II: Kristen Brady and the Bridesmaid dress

It wasn't until we'd driven six hours on our way to my best friend, Kristen's, wedding that I realized the new roominess in the car wasn't just because we left a 4 foot rocket behind in Montana. We also left our garment bag--and my bridesmaid dress.

The next 24 hours went as follows:

:: I wanted to turn the car around and drive back.  Robb vetoed this because a) we would have ended up pulling an all-nighter and b) we would have missed the temple sealing.    

:: Called the Hays family to see if anyone could drive it out to us, but no one could make it.

:: Investigated the possibility of shipping it via Grey Hound Bus, but it would have arrived too late.

:: Spent an hour on hold waiting to speak with a Delta representative to determine if the dress could be flown in; got disconnected.

:: Waited an additional two and a half hours on the phone, but it wasn't the right department. 

:: Called the new number, waited 20 minutes and got a hold of a very nice lady who promised me if the dress was under a pound it could take a flight from Missoula, MT at 6:00am to Salt Lake City, UT and arrive in Portland, OR around 9:40am.  She also assured me the package could stay overnight as long as someone got it there before the desk closed at 11:00pm.

:: My amazing sister-in-law, Brooke, and her husband, Al, drove an hour to the airport and were told by the heartless guy at the desk (I know he was heartless because I told him my whole sob story and it didn't sway him at all) that it was against airport policy to leave packages overnight.

:: Brooke and Al drove home and then drove back at four the next morning (not because we asked them to) in time for the dress to make the flight.

:: Dress made the flight to Utah on time.

:: Robb and I left for the temple and my dad went to the airport to wait for the dress (he also made friends with the girls who manned the Delta DASH desk).

::The plane landed in Oregon on schedule and those two amazing girls rushed over, grabbed the dress, and made the hand-off to my dad.

:: After a quick stop at the hotel to get it ironed, my dad arrived at the temple just as Kristen and Brady made their first public appearance as newlyweds.

:: Quick sprint into a changing room and I joined the other bridesmaids before pictures started.

So my tale has a happy ending and I will owe Brooke and Al for as long as I live (and something about their note makes me think they agree :) ):

I love this girl.

She moved to Medford during my freshman year of high school and we've been friends ever since.  She is one of the best people I know. (I heard the person you become is influenced most by the five friends you spend the most time with and if that's the case, I'm grateful for the eight some-odd years I had to learn from her.)  

I've never seen her this happy before and if you know Kristen at all, that's saying something.  I'm thrilled she found Kendall and watching them together I can tell he knows what a lucky guy he is.

Epic Road Trip Part I: Hays Family Reunion

Our journey began with a short 5 hour drive to Robb's grandparents in Idaho.  I read somewhere the best way to survive road trips with small children is night travel.  Bad idea. Colby went to sleep around 6:00pm like he normally does, woke up an hour later, and screamed/cried/stared at me with horrified eyes until we hit Rexburg (we traveled the rest of the time by day and it wasn't a problem, so lesson learned). 

We spent a chunk of the next day with Grandma and Grandpa Wilson (thank you for room and board!) and then continued our trek to Montana.

8 Months

:: Weight: 19.5 lbs (Robb calls him "Michelin Man" and I admit, there is a strong resemblance)   

:: Had his first haircut on June 29th (distracting him with a YouTube video playing on my cell phone is the only reason his ears are intact today)  
:: Loves splashing wildly in the bathtub

:: Discovered he can control the volume of voice and likes to whisper "da-da-da" to me when we're snuggling and will shriek happily at his toys and during quiet moments at church
:: Wakes up 3-5 times throughout the night (sadly, I think we're regressing in that area)

:: Likes to shrug his shoulders and dance (especially if someone joins him)

:: Prefers to be upside down
:: Had a bad first reaction to peas

:: Loves the earphones we got him after the fiasco of the Freedom Day parade 

:: Still no teeth

:: Waves good-bye to Robb as he leaves for work in the morning

:: Rolls around to get from point A to point B (it is no longer safe to leave anything on the floor)

Pioneer Day Classic

 Robb and I set fitness goals at the beginning of the summer: he wanted to run a 10K and I wanted to lose more baby weight (it's a good thing Colby is so cute).  He immediately found a race online, planned out a training regimen, and got busy.

His hard work really paid off.  Robb finished 2nd in his age group (so there's a medal for him somewhere but since we didn't realize how awesome he did until later, we didn't stick around to receive it).  He hit his goal pace of 7:50/mile and finished in the top 25 overall.  

 Randomly we bumped into my friend, Kristen, and her sister who were running the 5K.  I love Medfordites.

Reader's Digest Version: July

With so many amazing things happening lately I'm just going to summarize the last couple of weeks or I'll never catch up.  Here we go:

Robb's parents drove down to Utah for our nephew, Matthew's, baptism (which I forgot to take pictures of) and we spent the rest of the weekend enjoying quality time with the Hays' clan.  Lilly and Colby met for the first time and she liked him until her Grandma started snuggling Colby and then a little jealousy set in.

 Our 4th of July started off with the Freedom Festival Parade. 

For a small college town, Provo put on a pretty impressive show.  Colby wasn't a huge fan of the gunshots, but once Robb covered his ears he enjoyed all the bright colors.

July 4th is the anniversary of our first date and while we had to give up a few traditions because of Colby (that man likes to be in bed by 7:00), we still went to Red Robin and reminisced about our magical date four years ago.

We wrapped up our evening by watching the firework show in D.C. from the comfort of our living room.

My brother's fiance, Emily took out her endowment in the Draper Temple on July 12th.  There's no better place than the Temple when your whole family is there and thanks to Em, our family is now complete.

 We held her bridal shower the next day.

And on July 14th, 2012 Jordan Michael Rigby married Emily April Swendsen in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.

 It was a perfect day and I'm so happy to have Emily for a sister.

And finally, Robb turned 26 on July 16th.  Happy birthday, Sweetheart!
